About Malinska: Malinska and its surroundings, known as Dubashnitsa, are located in the western part of the island of Krk. Until the 15th century, Dubashnitsa was sparsely populated, as was the territory to the south of it, extending to the city of Krk. The name Dubashnitsa comes from the word "oak" (oak), which reflects the rich forests and pastures of the region. Historically, until the 12th century, Dubashnitsa was largely controlled by Omishal, although some parts belonged to the people of the Krk.
Malinska, the heart of Dubashnica, was once a busy timber export port and a favorite vacation spot for the Viennese aristocracy. First mentioned in the 15th century as a safe harbor during strong winds, Malinska turned into a resort with the advent of steamboats in 1866 due to the mild climate and about 260 sunny days a year. Today it is one of the main tourist destinations of the island, known for its numerous beaches, developed hotel industry and family tourism.
Nearby is Porat, a peaceful village historically dependent on fishing, but now dominated by tourism. The name "Porat" comes from the Italian word "porto", which means port. The beaches in Malinska and on the island of Krk are among the best in Croatia. The rugged coastline of the area ensures that the beaches will always be within reach. The island offers a variety of beaches: from rocky, sandy and pebbly to secluded coves. There are beaches for children, the disabled, people who cannot swim, the elderly and even dogs, as well as areas with natural shade, proximity to parking lots, sports events, beach bars and an unofficial nudist beach.
The beaches of the municipality of Malinska Dubashnica are connected by numerous footpaths forming a unique natural landscape. They range from manicured concrete plateaus to wild rocky sea entrances and hidden swimming spots in small coves. These beaches stretch along the western part of the island of Krk, starting along the Paradise Road connecting Malinska and Nivice, and ending behind the picturesque town of Porat.
