And Vrbnik, like other ancient castles of the island, is located high, at an altitude of almost 50 meters, in a very special place on a rock that literally plunges into the sea. Along with Shilo in Dobrinshtin, it is the only larger place on the east coast of the island of Krk. It was first mentioned in 1100. The inhabitants were mainly engaged in agriculture, less often in navigation and fishing. Today, the most famous product of the Vrbnica field and Vrbnik in general is the golden yellow wine - Zlakhtina; it has become known on a wider Croatian scale. According to the stories of the locals of the older generation, before wine became famous, grain was grown in the field to feed families with more members than today. In such conditions, the vines were grown on the edges of the fields, since there was no market and the wine was produced only for its own needs. Due to its rich history, Vrbnik is called the cradle of Croatian literacy and is certainly one of the oldest places on the island of Krk. Vrbnik is dominated by narrow streets, so it is not surprising that the narrowest street in the world is located here.
