Tourist review for the beginning of 2024
Tourism in Croatia is growing every year.In the first quarter of 2024, 1.1 million tourists arrived in Croatia, and 2.6 million tourist nights were sold in commercial accommodation facilities, which is 16.7% more arrivals and 17.2% more nights compared to the same period in 2023. Domestic tourists of Croatian origin made 422,000 arrivals and spent 885,000 nights in the first quarter of 2024, which is 6.9% more in tourist arrivals and 8.6% more in tourist nights.
During the same period, foreign tourists from other countries made 658 thousand arrivals and 1.7 million nights, which is 24.0% more arrivals and 22.1% more nights compared to the same period in 2023.
Tourists from Germany sold the most nights abroad (267 thousand nights, which accounted for 15.4% of the total number of nights sold abroad). They are followed by tourists from Slovenia (15.3%), Austria (13.8%), Italy (6.9%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (5.0%). All of the above countries realized an increase in nights abroad in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
The largest number of tourist nights in March 2024 was realized in the Istria region, as many as 409 thousand nights, which amounted to 30.9% of the total number of tourist nights realized in Croatia. Compared to March 2023, there were 77.0% more tourist nights in Istria. Of the total number of nights sold in Istria, domestic tourists sold 63 thousand nights, and foreign tourists sold 346 thousand nights. Tourists from Germany (25.6%), Austria (22.9%), Slovenia (20.7%), Italy (9.4%) and the Czech Republic (3.8%) sold the most foreign tourist nights in the Istrian Republic.
Zupania Istria is followed by Zupania Primorye-Gorski Kotar with 236 thousand realized tourist nights and the city of Zagreb with 167 thousand realized tourist nights.
The largest number of tourist nights in April 2024 was again realized in the municipality of Istria, as many as 766 thousand, which amounted to 27.6% of the total number of tourist nights realized in Croatia. Domestic tourists sold 115,000 nights in April 2024, which is 7.9% less than in April 2023. Foreign tourists sold 651 thousand nights in April 2024, which is 27.9% less than in April 2023.
This is followed by Dubrovnik-Neretva with 432 thousand tourist nights, which accounted for 15.6% of the total number of tourist nights sold in Croatia, as well as Split-Dalmatian with 424 thousand nights, which accounted for 15.3% of the total number of tourist nights sold in Croatia. In April 2024, compared to April 2023, the Dubrovnik-Neretva municipality recorded an increase in the number of nights for both domestic and foreign tourists by 5.2% and 18.9%, respectively. In the Split-Dalmatian municipality in April 2024, compared with April 2023, foreign tourists realized an increase in the number of nights by 2.4%, while domestic tourists realized a decrease in the number of nights by 7.3%.
