Bansko is the newest ski resort located at 925 m above sea level between Pirin, Rila and the Rhodopes mountains, nestled in the shadow of ice-caped Mt Vihren, the highest peak in Pirin. Bansko provides a superb combination of the virgin mountain nature and the atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian small town. To walk through the ancient cobbled streets you get the feel of the old world charm, with a town filled with history. In addition, Bansko is an excellent mountain resort with a short hot summer and long mild winter. Pirin mountains have a predominantly Alpine character with 2 peaks towering above 2900 m and though all grades are catered for, Bansko is the best resort in Bulgaria for advanced skiers. Instructors speak various foreign languages and there is a range of equipment for hire. There are 75 km of marked ski runs in Bansko with 14 lifts with the longest ski run of 4.8 km. Unque 16 km ski run with a vertical drop 1600 m suitable for intermediate skiers and snowboarders, covered by snow cannons and lighted, connects the highest ski run with the town. Total of 260 snow cannons secure the good snow cover on 90% of the ski slopes. This is very much an all year round resort, which all the family can enjoy.
